Your first parkrun is easier when you have checked the event details and know what to bring. Use the chosen event's official page for its location, current arrangements and cancellation notices rather than relying on an old blog's start-time claim.
Register and save your barcode
parkrun's registration instructions explain how to register, receive the confirmation email and save or print a personal barcode. Allow time to complete that before the event. Check that the barcode can be displayed or scanned without depending on an unreliable mobile connection.
You do not need to register again for every visit. Keep your own details secure and use your own participant record. Refer to parkrun's barcode policy for the current requirements for recording a result.
Read the local event information
Confirm the meeting point, travel options and any relevant access or participation rules. Event arrangements may differ, so check the chosen event rather than transferring assumptions from another location. Leave time to find the start and listen to the first-timer information and main briefing.
Wear kit you have already tried. If your aim is simply to take part, decide that before looking at anyone else's target time. A GPS watch is optional for your personal recording; it does not replace the event's result process.
Follow the finish procedure
Listen to the volunteers and follow the local finish and scanning instructions. Keep any finish token within the event's process and return it as directed. If something goes wrong with a barcode or result, use the official event contact route rather than posting someone else's details publicly.
Make the next visit easier
Afterwards, note what helped: the travel time, which clothing worked and what you would change. If you enjoyed going with someone, agree the next visit without making a faster time the only reason to return.
